Working from the design vision developed by Buttercup Design and constructed by SG Cunningham, Kitchen Appeal delivered a comprehensive commercial millwork package for Xcentric Hair Studio — a high-traffic salon environment designed to feel both refined and welcoming. The goal was to bring the design intent to life through custom millwork solutions that support the daily rhythm of stylists and clients while maintaining a polished, elevated aesthetic. Through a curated blend of stained flat-sawn oak doors and durable prefinished materials, the completed interior balances natural warmth with commercial-grade performance, resulting in a salon that feels sophisticated, functional, and effortlessly modern.
The scope of this commercial millwork project included the fabrication and installation of a custom partition wall, built-in coffee bar, fully functional colour bar, retail product display shelving, custom bathroom millwork, and staff lockers. Each element was designed to support a dynamic salon environment where efficiency, organization, and presentation are equally important.
The selected material palette balances warmth, durability, and long-term performance, supporting both the design vision and operational needs of the salon. Stained flat-sawn oak doors introduced texture and richness, while prefinished materials provided resilience and low-maintenance performance suited to a busy commercial setting. The objective was to ensure every millwork feature contributed to operational flow while reinforcing the salon’s contemporary identity. Clean lines, integrated storage, and intentional detailing allowed the space to feel cohesive without overwhelming the client experience.
Delivering custom millwork within a busy salon environment requires careful coordination between the design vision, construction requirements, and fabrication execution. The project included a variety of specialized millwork elements, each serving a distinct operational purpose—from colour preparation and retail display to hospitality and staff organization.
Material durability and long-term performance were important considerations throughout the fabrication process. Surfaces needed to withstand frequent cleaning, product exposure, and daily wear while maintaining their appearance over time. Attention was also given to ensuring that each millwork component was manufactured and installed to align precisely with the layouts, clearances, and functional requirements established by Buttercup Design.
The custom partition wall, colour bar, retail displays, coffee station, and staff storage areas each required precise fabrication and installation to support the overall design intent while meeting the operational demands of a high-traffic commercial environment. Consistent detailing, material coordination, and installation accuracy were essential to achieving a seamless final result.
To address these needs, the millwork strategy emphasized thoughtful zoning, durable finishes, and cohesive detailing throughout the studio.
Custom Partition Wall
Throughout the studio, the consistent pairing of stained flat-sawn oak with prefinished materials creates a layered material experience. The oak adds depth and natural warmth, while the prefinished elements provide the durability required for a commercial environment. This careful balance allows the space to feel elevated without sacrificing practicality.
The completed Xcentric Hair Studio reflects a seamless collaboration between design, construction, and millwork. Each custom element supports the natural flow of daily operations, enabling stylists to work efficiently while maintaining a refined client-facing environment. Storage solutions reduce visual clutter, and thoughtfully defined zones create clarity within the open-plan layout.
The mix of materials brings warmth to the space without compromising its clean, modern identity. Stained oak surfaces introduce richness and texture, while durable prefinished components ensure the studio remains polished despite heavy daily use. Clients experience a space that feels welcoming and curated, and staff benefit from practical, well-organized work areas that enhance productivity.
This project demonstrates how commercial millwork can shape both workflow and atmosphere within a high-traffic service environment. The integration of stained flat-sawn oak with durable prefinished materials delivers a balance of natural warmth and long-term performance. Thoughtful zoning through partition walls and custom storage ensures operational efficiency without sacrificing openness. Retail shelving and hospitality features elevate the client experience, while staff-focused elements enhance daily functionality.
Xcentric Hair Studio stands as an example of how intentional millwork design can transform a commercial interior — proving that beauty, durability, and precision craftsmanship can coexist seamlessly in a modern salon setting.
